Aussie band The Nagging Doubts are set to drop their new single A Shot In The Dark tomorrow. If you’re like us and can’t wait, listen to the track right here on MILKY before its release!

The track navigates the difficult terrain of finding your feet in adulthood, drawing influence from alternative sonic sounds of the past, ranging from post-punk to shoe-gaze with moments of indie-pop sounds. Lead singer Joe Wilks gives an entrancing vocal performance with bassist Ruby King’s back vocals adding to the mesmerising melodies on the track. The honest and conversational lyrics draw the listener in whilst feeding them with breezy melodies and harmonies. Of the track, Wilks says the song came from “a place of imposed solitude where we are all facing the shadows inside ourselves”.

A Shot In The Dark marks the bands first release under their new label Scenic Drive. The new label was founded by award-winning producer Wayne Connolly (The Vines, You Am I, Cloud Control, Babe Rainbow). Since their signing, Connolly has been guiding the band as they begin to experiment with newer sounds.

The band formed during high school, releasing their first EP, Deug Lane, during their final year of schooling. Since then, the band has seen the addition of bassist Ruby King and lead guitarist Eden Neilson. With new collaborators, the bands growth is evident on A Shot In The Dark, exhibiting a more mature sound through their experimentation with effects and instrumentation.

Their upcoming EP is set to continue their exploration into post-punk and shoe-gaze, with a particular focus on their enhanced songwriting abilities. Of the release, drummer Tom O’Rourke teases: “Each song is a window into a certain state of mind attached to the process of growing up. When you listen to the Nagging Doubts, you get a dose of ‘autocalm’, a state everyone can relate to, whether it be in self-doubt or pure ecstasy.”

The band are set to launch their new single with two sold out performances at Newtown’s The Vanguard this Thursday. The venue will comply with strict social distancing regulations, with only 50 audience members per performance. Known for their adrenaline-fueled live shows, the band will be debuting new material, beginning a new chapter of their careers.
