Tomorrow, Boorloo/Perth artist ALEIA will release her new single, Middle Name. If you can't wait to hear it, give it a spin right here on MILKY exclusively before its release.

Built around brooding guitar work and a steady, understated rhythm, Middle Name finds its strength in the contrast between its darker instrumental backdrop and ALEIA’s delicate vocal delivery. There’s a raw, grungy edge to the verses, with her airy vocals sitting just above the arrangement, before the track opens up into a bigger, more melodic chorus. Blending elements of indie rock and alt-pop, the shift gives the song an added intensity without losing the vulnerability at its core. It’s a slow-burning release that gradually draws you in, allowing the emotion to build alongside the music.

Middle Name unpacks the blurred lines of a relationship built on convenience, where intimacy is mistaken for genuine connection. ALEIA turns the small but telling details of being overlooked into something much bigger, using the question of whether someone even knows her middle name as a reflection of how little they understand about her beyond what she can offer them. There’s also an undercurrent of self-awareness, as she acknowledges her own destructive patterns while questioning the behaviour of someone who keeps her at arm’s length. Rather than simply dwelling on heartbreak, the track confronts the uncomfortable feeling of being present in someone’s life without ever feeling truly seen.

Middle Name is out November 6.
