Matchmaking Films and Songs

Irish indie outfit NewDad have today dropped their sophomore EP, Banshee. To celebrate the release, the four-piece have curated an exclusive playlist for MILKY, full of some of their favourite tracks that have appeared in films.
Speaking of the EP, the band share: “This EP is definitely bigger, having more time in the studio definitely meant we got to experiment more and layer more into each track so there’s an overall bigger sound! The main themes of this EP are restlessness and anxiety, during lockdown that’s how myself and most people were feeling so that’s what inspired a lot of the writing.”
JULIE DAWSON
Bad Reputation - Halfcocked | Shrek
Such a great soundtrack and I feel this track in particular really captures his character
Asleep - The Smiths | The Perks Of Being a Wallflower
This track perfectly depicts how the main character is struggling through the film
SEAN O'DOWD
What Christmas Means To Me - Stevie Wonder | Elf
My favourite Christmas movie of all time and this is where I heard it first. It’s so much fun and matches the chaos of the scene in the movie.
All You Need Is Love - Lynden David Hall | Love Actually
This scene always makes me cry. The arrangement of the version in the movie is so gorgeous and is done so well in the actually movie with the musicians sitting in the church.
AINDLE O’BEIRN
Ceremony - New Order | Marie Antoinette
I think this song perfectly encapsulates the teenage experiences of longing and naivety that are at the centre of Sofia Coppola’s coming of age biopic.
Jaan Pehchan Ho - Mohammed Rafi | Ghost World
A quirky, fun gem that works as a perfect introduction to the eccentric world and esoteric character of Ghost World’s Enid Coleslaw.
Cosmic Dancer - T Rex | Billy Elliot
This song has always just stood out to me as a fantastic parallel to the film as a whole.
FIACHRA PARSLOW
You’ve Got a Friend In Me - Randy Newman | Toy Story
This song is an obvious choice but it’s perfect in Toy story. It’s upbeat and happy which is perfect for a kids movie and it also perfectly highlights the bond a child has with their toys.
Love Is An Open Door - Kristen Bell and Santino Fontana | Frozen
This song is just one of my favourite songs from a movie! We always sing it and play it full volume before a set to get us pumped up and in a good mood. It doesn’t sound like a hype song but when you are singing it with your friends it does the trick!
Wouldn’t It Be Nice - The Beach Boys | 50 First Dates
This is just a great song and it actually goes perfectly in the movie 50 first dates because it's about wishing you could be with someone all day every day and in the movie that’s exactly what happens only one character forgets every day the next morning. The longing to be together and make happy memories in the song is perfectly portrayed in the movie because although the characters can be together it’s all forgotten the next day.
Banshee is out now!
