Korean-Australian producer, artist and DJ nabii has dropped her new single in my room!. To celebrate, she has curated an exclusive playlist for MILKY full of music that has inspired her as of late...
Speaking on the track, nabii shares: “in my room! to me is the ultimate pop song, a high-energy sugar rush written for my younger self. It embodies that childlike wonder we sometimes forget as we get older. It’s about loving like it’s the very first time - wholeheartedly and almost naively, before life teaches you to hold back.”
DEEP DIVING - AFTER
Probably my most played song of last year just so beautifully written/composed. Sounds like the soundtrack to a 2000s coming of age film. I’ve been rinsing After’s whole discography i’m really drawn to the uplifting, nostalgic feeling - a similar vibe i’m trying to capture in my EP ‘it came to me in a dream’.
POSITION FAMOUS - FROST CHILDREN
The album came out was when i was on holiday in Bali listening on the back of a grab feeling #free, they capture this euphoric feeling that i’m always chasing, so well. Something I think about when I'm making music is what a live experience of the music will be. Seeing them live this year was inspiring in how well their music translates into a live setting, their stage presence is seriously unmatched.
FYP - JULIA WOLF
I had this whole album on repeat. I grew up on emo adjacent / pop punk music, i’m drawn to anything with emotional intensity/makes me feel something. I love her songwriting and her flow is so rhythmically satisfying and i love that you can feel the emotion in her vocal delivery.
CHEERLEADER - PORTER ROBINSON
Porter as a producer/musician just in general is an icon and a genius. I think writing uplifting pop music that feels genuine can sometimes be difficult but I this whole album does the ‘feel good’ pop song so well. I love listening to albums for the journey, especially when the story telling and world building is so vivid and thought out so you can easily escape into their universe.
MISSING ME, MISSING YOU - BGIRL & SWEDM
A tribute to og trance with the vocal delivery/processing and that classic trance arp and chord progression. I love the bitter sweet, #yearning #hopecore feeling, like the tension & release of trance music, the push and pull between escapism vs. reality.
FULL FRONTAL - ASHNIKO
This whole record has insane production, each element in the songs have so much identity and purpose. Her vocals really inspired me to have more self assured and confident vocals in my own tracks. I love how her verses have such a different tone/vibe to the hook sometimes it feels like a different song all together.
PROMISE - ESP
I was listening to a lot of ambient trance last year, especially ESP and promise album. It’s like a sonic hug, felt like a safe space I could just melt into.
REAL LIFE - EAR
Such a good song I had this on repeat for the last few months of the year. Just scratched my brain with the prod, it felt simple and familiar but so fresh at the same time - my fav combo.
DETONATE - CHARLI XCX
I always have this track, especially this whole album on repeat every few months, it’s like the perfect pop song and the song writing is so relatable. I’m always listening to a lot of A.g. cook, he’s got such a distinct sound signature and plays with tone and space in a really playful/creative way.
IPOD TOUCH - NINAJIRACHI
This track is the perfect blend of dance music and pop song writing. It’s a 0 skip album, and it’s been so inspiring to watch her journey especially recently, just goes to show staying true to your craft and writing from your own unique perspective is always the answer.
