Image: Katerina Papathanasopoulos. Music featured on TV Shows and movies is one of my all time favourite things. Nowadays when shows add classic tracks to their soundtrack, or in the case of Bridgerton cover it to suit the style of genre, I’m in complete awe.

Having started the year off with a bang, that being, working off the high experienced on the 1st of January, in having guessed a couple of artists who ultimately did feature on the Stranger Things finale. I’m doing it again, we’re putting together MILKY’s annual Bridgerton music hopefuls. Multiple trailers have been released and we’ve come to know the Bridgerton’s over the years, so we’re trying to compile a list that captures the essence of who they are and what we know thus far.

Let’s not forget we also had “Jealous” on our list last year, so we need to top that this year. And with the addition of Pitbull last year we’ve now gone a bit rogue. And we of course want to add more to our list now, like Fantasy by Mariah Carey, Exile by Taylor Swift ft Bon Iver and Waiting for Tonight by Jennifer Lopez, however we've had to refrain (it could be endless!) Here is our final list:

WORK OF ART BY BENSON BOONE

Do we really need to explain this? For the artists and lovers out there we’ve decided this will heavily focus on art. Art is the expression of beauty and we’re all for it.

My Muse by Leon Thomas - You could say every season we see a different muse, and I would love to see this track get the Bridgerton treatment. The arrangement already has that silky element to it, and strings that could be heightened even more, bringing that tension.

UNWRITTEN BY NATASHA BEDINGFIELD

Tell me why I search this song on YouTube and the advertisement that plays before it is the Bridgerton trailer. Whilst yes, this track has been used in media before and has a resurgence on TikTok last year, but it works with the idea of what this season could bring. I want rain, I want glorious sunsets, I want the characters releasing their inhibitions.

LOVE ILLUMINATION BY FRANZ FERDINAND

This track captures the sentiment of a search, from what we’ve seen there’s an element of Cinderella to this season. The idea that something needs to be illuminated. Love being one of those things. Again, I’d love to see a classical take on this track. The guitars being something that could translate into something really smooth.

LET ME LOVE YOU BY MARIO

Ok, it might be my computer realising I’m working on Bridgerton content, but the trailer came up again before this song. Could it be? The pre-chorus and chorus is what cinches this selection for me. If Bridgerton wasn’t a period drama I’d want Benedict on a lawn singing this to Sophie.

MASQUERADE BY BACKSTREET BOYS

Picture it, we’re at the masked ball, this song comes on. Everyone is dancing perfect choreo (thing Moulin Rouge! when the whole company is dancing the tango) and then we get Benedict and Sophie spinning around as they block the whole room out (like Lizzie and Darcy in Pride and Prejudice 2005) as the music builds to a crescendo.

HAPPINESS IS A BUTTERFLY BY LANA DEL REY

Taking it down a notch, you can just picture this in one of the more subdued moments on the show. I love the idea of a butterfly, both symbolic in what it represents as a creature itself, as well as what it can mean in the grand scheme of things. I’m also aiming to have dancing mentioned in as many songs on this list as I can.

ENCHANTED BY TAYLOR SWIFT

This track just screams Bridgerton season 4. “Banished when I saw your face.” “It was enchanting to meet you.” “Your silhouette starts to make its way to me” “Playful conversation starts.” Just a few lines that come to mind. I could repeat the whole song, but you get the picture. And then when the chorus hits! Can you just imagine the strings?! If it’s not featured on this season, mark my words I’m grabbing my violin and doing it myself.

ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS BY KYLIE MINOGUE

Obviously we have our Aussie girl Yerin Ha as the MFC (main female character) this year, so of course we had to include some Aussies on this list and naturally this track would work so well with one of the dance sequences featured in the show. Next level would be Kylie featuring on the show to actually sing the song. Can you imagine?! (I will be insufferable if this song actually features on the show, it would be incredible!)

LIKE A PRAYER BY MADONNA

Continuing the pop queen route, I had this song stuck in my head when I was thinking of songs that could feature on this season. Benedict just screams this song. Eloquent, like poetry we’ve heard him recite in previous seasons.

SUBLIME BY SARAH KINSLEY

This song could fit so many scenarios, with the way it builds and moves you can picture it in that moment where everything just comes together. Putting that classic instrumental element on it would bring something really powerful to any scene.

EVERY GIRL YOU'VE EVER LOVED BY MILEY CYRUS FEAT. NAOMI CAMPBELL

I think this is my most “wildcard” selection. I can just hear the violins bring that staccato element. It’s pouring from this track and then the fluid long bows in between. I can’t picture the scene just yet. Oh, maybe a scene where Benedict is trying to capture the beauty of the masked beauty aka Sophie.

DANCING2 BY KELI HOLIDAY

If this song doesn’t sum up what we can expect from season 4 I don’t know what does. Send me a fan edit if you come across one. This is another one that you can just picture, building to that iconic moment. It could very well be their wedding song. I can just picture it. Jubilant, happy, joyful.

TUG OF WAR BY PAUL MCCARTNEY

There’s an element of resistance, and it could sum up a bevy of characters here. Characters who are dealing with essentially a tug of war. Plus again there’s a mention of dancing.

HEART'S DESIRE BY KIP MOORE

One of our cover stars, we started with a phrase and thought, Kip Moore. The sentiment in this song works with what we’ve seen thus far from the trailers. It brings the emotion and drive, both in feeling and action. We're also prepared a playlist full of our dream Australian artists to recieve the Bridgerton treatment. Stay tuned. Bridgerton is streaming now on Netflix!
