Belarusian post-punk / synth-pop group Molchat Doma have released their new album, Belaya Polosa, via Sacred Bones. To celebrate, the band have curated an exclusive playlist full of artists who have inspired and influenced them.

“The entire album is a prism through which we tried to reflect what has happened to us,” the band share. “It's a different band... A different sound and context, but the same style and the same emotions.”

DEPACHE MODE

Depeche Mode has always been one of the main, if not the main, inspirations for Molchat Doma. This is especially evident on our latest album, because we listened to this band a lot and we still love them. Their music is super dark, just like ours. We also have awesome arrangements and sounds. They’re simply great.

PINK FLOYD

This band influenced each of us at the very beginning of our musical journey, and if it weren’t for them, there might not be Molchat Doma. We learned to play their songs, developing ourselves as musicians in the process.

PORTISHEAD

Portishead is no less important for us. They are perfect in everything: their approach to creating music, the music itself, how it sounds, and the meanings behind their songs. Their music has an intimate and captivating quality.

NEW ORDER

Many people think we are bigger fans of Joy Division, but in reality, most of the band prefers New Order because their music is very danceable and stylishly produced. In the early stages of our development, we listened to a lot of New Order, which influenced our songs.

KRAFTWERK

Thanks to Kraftwerk, we discovered our love for synthesizers. The style of this band is simply unmatched. Creating such cool minimalism is rare, but these German guys managed to revolutionize the world of music.

KINO

For anyone from Eastern Europe, Kino is embedded in their DNA. We are from Eastern Europe, and Kino is like The Beatles for the rest of the world. Their impact is enormous, no doubt.

MASSIVE ATTACK

There’s not much to say here — Massive Attack speaks for itself. Their music and their live shows are something incredible, strange, mysterious, yet at the same time very groovy and deeply moving.

RADIOHEAD

When we first started making music, Radiohead was the unifying factor that brought Raman and Yahor together. It’s thanks to this band that we essentially met.

JOHN FRUSCIANTE

When it comes to favourite guitarists, John Frusciante would definitely take the top spot for us. His incredible playing style is so soulful, it feels like he’s playing not just with his hands, but with his whole spirit. Amazing! I highly recommend all of John Frusciante’s solo albums.

THE CURE

And, of course, the godfathers of the genre, The Cure. It’s obvious: Robert Smith knew how to create great music, he still can, and he will continue to inspire many artists I hope, including us.
