Naarm-based artist Matilda Pearl has delivered her new single, Samantha Jones. To celebrate the release, the singer has shared with MILKY five tracks to boost your confidence.
Serving as an ode to the Sex and the City icon of the same name, Pearl shares of Samantha Jones, “not that anyone wants to hear about the pandemic anymore, but I binge watched all the Sex and the City seasons back to back during the Melb lockdowns. I remember being so annoyed about missing out on such a pivotal point (17 - 19 years) of my life being stuck at home. Watching it, Samantha Jones was kind of like this goddess to me. I love that she’s so iconic, unapologetic and sexually confident. I think we could all use some Samantha Jones energy in our lives.”
CEO OF MY ASS - DEV LEMONS
From the moment my best mate showed me this song I was in love. Like “you’re just a meatball in my pan”? So good. It’s my go to hot girl fast walking song.
GREEN HONDA - BENEE
Well I can’t drive. But if I could, all I would wanna do is pull up in my green honda. Benee is just the best at making you feel like that b!tch. “You were a waste of f**king time” is so simple but hits so hard.
CAN’T RELATE - ASHWARYA
I am such a huge ASHWARYA fan. This song slaps. The crunchy synth bass paired with the understated husky vocals makes me feel like I’m walking away from a huge explosion in slo mo looking like some misunderstood badass super villain that just got the coolest revenge at the end of the movie (that was a very long sentence).
TREAT ME LIKE A SLUT - KIM PETRAS
I will never get over Kim Petras’ Slut Pop era. Iconic. I love that she’s taken typically derogatory language like sl*t and dirty but reclaimed it and made it so powerful. Absolutely my go to treadmill power walk song.
VROOM VROOM - CHARLI XCX
This will forever be iconic. Whenever I need a boost Charli is my go to. I saw her at Northcote Theatre this year and honestly my life is complete. Her scream at the start of this song both cured me and made me question everything. The psychotic synths and fx in this track just scratch an itch in my brain.
Samantha Jones is out now!
