Melbourne musician Lachlan Denton has released his third studio album, Furnishings. To celebrate the release, the musician has curated an exclusive playlist for MILKY, full of tracks from his collaborators on the record.

To record the album, Denton enlisted help from friends Anila Hasnain (Partner Look) and Dom Kearton (Skydeck), on Bass and Guitar respectively. The producing of the record was split up between sessions with Liam Halliwell (The Ocean Party, Snowy Band), Liam Parsons and Stefan Blair (Good Morning), Dainis Lacey (Cool Sounds) and Tori Holleman (Douglas Fur, Retiree). For each session the engineers became quasi members of the band, playing singing and arranging collaboratively.

DOM ROFF – CRAWL UP AT YOUR FEET

Dom Roff is my good friend Dom Kearton. He put out a tape about 5 years back and it’s full of amazingly catchy post punk like this one.

PARTNER LOOK - SPEED LIMIT

Anila Hasnain played bass on the new record. We play in another band together called Partner Look. Speed Limit, which Ania sings, is a real standout for me, on the album we put out last year.

SNOWY – WHERE AM I

I’ve been lucky enough to play music with Snowy for what will soon be 20 years. ‘Where Am I’ is yet another example of just what an excellent songwriter he is.

GOOD MORNING – MOLLYDUKER

One of Melbourne’s best bands. Taken from a 7” from a couple of years ago. This song gets me every time.

GOOD MORNING – KEEP IT

Taken from the same 7”, ‘Keep It’ always reminds me of ‘Post’ era Paul Kelly. Need I say more?

COOL SOUNDS – NYLON

Dain has a lot of great songs, but I always love the softer moments. I love the 50s pop feel that come in at around the one-minute mark

RETIREE – FADING AWAY

Tori sent me this track before it came out, and I was instantly taken by it. Absolute banger!

SNOWY BAND – NEVER CHANGE

My favourite track from the first Snowy Band record. It never gets old.

COOL SOUND – NOTHING’S NEW

Another softer moment for Cool Sounds taken from the Sleepers EP. So perfectly understated.

SKYDECK – ANTHONY

This is a bit of a favourite among our friends. Listen and you’ll see why.

DOUGLAS FUR – BIG TREES FALL HARD

Taken from Tori’s album of last year, this is a real highlight.
