Musical Influences

Image: Supplied.

DJ Darcy Justice has curated an exclusive playlist for MILKY, full of tracks that influenced their sound.

SIR DUKE - STEVIE WONDER

This song reminds me of my childhood. Mum would drive me and my sisters to school and this album (songs in the key of life) would always be in the tape deck. This was our favourite song and we would rewind and repeat every day.

MOVE ON UP - CURTIS MAYFIELD.

My mums favourite song. So many memories of mum grooving around the lounge room trying to get shy little me to join in. If I could move as half as good as my mum id be so happy

CHERISH THE DAY - SADE

I was late as to the Sade game . Every single album is beautiful . This is by far my favourite song. Lifts my mood and soothes my spirit.

WORK IT - MISSY ELLIOT

Under Construction was one of the first Albums that I owned. Missy is my idol and this song is my inspiration . Pump this most days

THE HOP - A TRIBE CALLED QUEST

Favourite tribe album for sure and this track is just too smooth. I learnt to dj by just mixing all the tribe albums together because thats all I owned on vinyl.

TWIN TURBO - SLEEP D

Sleep D got me into dance music. Mania, the weekly party they threw at lounge was the spot. Those times there legit shaped me. I love this song so much. These boys usually use a lot more tempo in their music and I love how they have gone more down tempo on this one.

THE PROWLER - MISS REPRESENTED

Love this sexy, wonky empowering tune. Miss represented, right on.

HARDCORE LOVER - LADY SAW FEAT. TOK

Lady saw has such a strong powerful voice. Her songs are often about her satisfaction as a woman which is so nice to hear in the dance hall scene that is dominated by the males point of view. Bless up Lady saw.

NEEDLE EYE - SPICE

New generation Jamaican Dance hall artist. Such a smooth voice. When I listen to this song can’t help but wind the waste and imagine I’m at a dance party in Kingston.

D-12 - PURPLE PILLS

This was also one of the first single cds I owned. I had to get mum to come into Sanity to buy it for me because it was 18+. Still Bumping it to this day.
