PLAYLIST: CURATED BY BAD MOON BORN

10 Songs That Influenced Light Leaves The Day

Sydney hard-rock outfit Bad Moon Born recently dropped their new single, Light Leaves The Day. To celebrate the release, the band have curated an exclusive playlist for MILKY, full of songs that influenced them whilst writing the track.

“Light Leaves the Day addresses a time when I’d been newly sober following several years of chronic alcoholism and drug abuse. The initial clarity that came with sobriety brought several unaddressed mental health issues to the forefront, leaving me to confront them unaided through means of self-medication. It forced me into a terrifying loop of introspection which, through therapy and the support of my loved ones, ultimately resulted in a newfound desire to commit to my personal development, and change my behaviour. The song was written at a time when I was new to this change and whilst I was hopeful for the future, I was terrified that my efforts wouldn’t be enough to save the relationships I’d damaged throughout this time. 18 months on, I can safely say that committing to sobriety has been the best decision I’ve ever made.” front man Jordan Von Grae shares.

INCUBUS - DRIVE

This track has that acoustic feel but never goes too deep into the traditional ballad realm, which we really liked.

BRING ME THE HORIZON – I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO SAY

BMTH are a big influence of ours. The way this song uses minimal textures but still achieves a big sound inspired us quite a bit.

FILTER – TAKE A PICTURE

We really enjoy the alternative cruisy feel of this track and how it keeps rolling. The atmosphere this song creates was quite inspiring.

BADFLOWER – GHOST

We were listening to Badflower a lot at the time of writing, and felt their penchant for neo- Jeff Buckley vibes was something we could bring into our track.

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS – BREAKING THE GIRL

The way the chords move in congruence with the pedalling bass notes in this felt like a cool idea to emulate.

MASSIVE ATTACK – TEARDROP

The choices of sounds and instrumentation in this track really matched that feeling of melancholic hope we were looking.

NORTHLANE – BLOODLINE (ACOUSTIC)

The intimacy and layering achieved in this acoustic reimagining really struck a chord with us, and was something we wanted to mirror.

NIRVANA – SOMETHING IN THE WAY

The simplicity of this song proves that you don’t need to overdo it to convey what you mean and how you feel.

ARCHITECTS – A WASTED HYMN (ACOUSTIC)

Being a heavy band, we drew a lot of influence from the way Northlane reimagined this track of theirs, acoustically.

ALICE IN CHAINS - NUTSHELL

Alice In Chains have always been incredible at capturing melancholy within their tracks, particularly Nutshell, which is something we wanted to achieve.

Light Leaves The Day is out now!
