Sydney-based hip-hop artist Morpheus Justin recently shared his emotive new single, I Wish. The track sees the rapper enlist singer and longtime collaborator MaiAnne.
Built upon a spatial soundscape, Justin reflects upon his early life and relationship with his father, and the dynamic change following his mothers death. Laced with introspective lyricism that presents itself as a conversation with a figure from his past, the musician acknowledges the hurt and pain present within this relationship, with the hopes of moving towards a resolute place of understanding. Produced by Jon Reichardt, MaiAnne's vocals compliment Justin's lingering flow.
"I was simply tired and exhausted, I held so much hate and contempt inside that it was hurting me, I wanted to let go." the rapper shares of the release. "The song was written in a dialogue format, like a conversation I was having with specific people."
I Wish follows Justin's debut single, Let It Go, with both tracks set to appear on the rappers debut EP, Tug Of War, which is due out early next year. Delving into personal topics across his music, the musician explores themes of war, conflict, displacement, trauma and dysfunction, and his move as a child from South Sudan to Australia.
