ARIA Award winners Lime Cordiale and British actor, writer, producer, rapper and singer-songwriter Idris Elba have treated us once again, this time with the visual for their infectious new track, What's Not To Like. The song is set to appear on their collaborative body of work, Cordi Elba, due out next month.
Directed and produced by Ken Weston, the vibrant clip transports us into the most engaging slot machine with the artists taking on a number of characters. Farmer Louis? Check! Photographer Oli? Check! Boxer Idris? Check! From opposite sides of the world, Lime Cordiale and Elba were able to unite to piece together a fantastic visual.
“This music video was really driven by Idris. Louis and I suggested an animated clip, seeing as we're on the other side of the world and Idris doesn't exactly have the most free schedule, but Idris pushed us to find a green screen studio. The song is about the different versions of ourselves so Idris talked us through this concept of his,” says Oli of the video.
“We received Idris' footage first and then we had to somehow match his performance! God, he just looks so good on the screen! How could we possibly look that good! Ken Weston who is working on our live video content for the album tour was amazing and putting all this together. It ain't easy working with two teams on different continents,” adds Louis.
Taking the lead on the track, Elba's commanding vocals stomp above riotous riffs and propelling percussion that enters a whole new fuzzy realm for the project. Conceptually, the song is an anthem to stay true to your own course and shake off the opinions of others.
Lime Cordiale linked up with Elba whilst the actor was in town filming Marvel's latest blockbuster, Thor: Love and Thunder, enlisting him on a new version of Unnecessary Things. From there, a creative collaboration flourished and Cordi Elba came to be. “I wanted to collaborate,” says Elba. “We agreed about the vibe and the song was there. They were really open to ideas; it was an opportunity for me to write songs I normally wouldn’t write. Ultimately, this is a step into a new universe musically for me.”
