Charlie Pittman has a knack for making songs feel lived-in before they ever officially arrive. His latest single, in your system, is finally out, backed by a raw one-take live performance that captures the track in the setting where it first found its audience.

Written in Los Angeles with David Alexander (Sadie Jean, KATSEYE) and Amelie Kalia McGrath, the song sits in the messy aftermath of a breakup - less about getting someone back than wondering whether you’ve completely disappeared from their world. He says the song is "essentially about that uncomfortable stage after a breakup where you know something is over, but you’re still looking for signs that you haven’t completely disappeared from the other person’s life. At its core, it’s about ego, longing, and that need to know you haven’t been completely erased.”

It’s Pittman’s voice, however, that gives the track much of its character. His tone is instantly recognisable, shifting effortlessly between grounded chest vocals and airy falsetto without ever feeling forced. Pair that with lyrics that feel personal without being overly specific, and there’s an immediacy to Pittman’s songwriting that makes the songs easy to connect with.

That feeling has already proved potent live. Pittman has spent the past year road-testing the song acoustically, gradually turning it into a fan favourite and using those performances to shape the finished production. “Living with it in that setting really helped shape how I wanted to approach the production — particularly the dynamics and the bigger gang-vocal moments, while still keeping the intimacy that the song had live.”

The accompanying video keeps that immediacy intact. Shot in Sydney by director Liam Deans, the one-take performance puts Pittman and his band front and centre, with Kyle Charles Hall on guitars and backing vocals, Bryce Pauling on bass and Giac Benvenuto on drums.

With more than 2.4 million global artist streams behind him, Pittman is steadily carving out his own space in Australia’s local music scene. Recent support slots alongside Fly By Midnight, Sydney Rose, The Rions and The Manatees, plus a run of intimate NSW shows, have put him in front of increasingly varied audiences while keeping the live show at the heart of his growth.

Now, that momentum moves into a bigger run of dates. Pittman will support UK singer-songwriter Henry Moodie on his Australian tour next month before heading to the US to work on new music. In November, he returns to the East Coast for headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, with the promise of surprises along the way.

“I’m thrilled to be coming back to Melbourne and Brisbane again after playing some shows earlier in the year with Sydney Rose and Fly By Midnight and a hometown Sydney show is always special. We’ve got lots planned for this tour including a few surprises so we’re keen to get back on the road,” Charlie says.
