Maybe you were sitting there thinking that Kylie Minogue's Padam Padam was the song of the summer (which lets be honest it currently is), or maybe that the resurgence of Taylor Swift's Cruel Summer dominating the charts four years after its release would reign (okay, it kind of is). Or maybe, just maybe, you were thinking nothing could top Miley Cyrus' juggernaut hit Flowers, and that six months after its release it would continue to soundtrack every sweaty dance floor (you're not wrong). But all that is about to change. Enter Troye Sivan's new single, Rush.
Serving as the first taste of the global superstars forthcoming third studio album, Something To Give Each Other, there is no doubt that Rush is about to become 2023's mega-summer anthem. The confident cut is built upon a pulsating beat that will drive you straight to the dance floor and keep you moving all night long. Sivan's smooth vocals float above groove-laden production during the songs verses, building towards an anthemic sing-a-long chorus that oozes with pleasure and ecstasy. Just what we need! Furthermore, the song finds the musician reflecting on a period laced with freedom and euphoria, basking in the glow of liberation fuelled by desire, sweat, queerness and partying. Seriously, what more could you want from your new favourite song?
“Rush is the feeling of kissing a sweaty stranger on a dancefloor, a 2 hour date that turned into a weekend, a crush, a winter, a summer,” explains Sivan. “Party after party, after party after party. All of my experiences from a chapter where I feel confident, free and liberated. Independent, yet somehow the most connected to the music and community around me.”
The release arrives alongside an official visual, directed by Gordon von Steiner (Hermès Ski, Versace Man FW22, Dior Rouge, Louis Vuitton Cruise, Miu Miu). Capturing the songs lustful nature, racy scenes follow the musician and his friends enjoying a simmering summer with exceptional choreography from Sergio Reis (BTS’ Black Swan) expertly showcased through the visuals stunning cinematography.
Set to arrive on October 13, Something To Give Each Other sees Sivan teaming up with Oscar Görres (Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Sam Smith), Ian Kirkpatrick (Dua Lipa, Britney Spears), Leland (Selena Gomez, Ava Max) and Styalz Fuego (Khalid, Imagine Dragons) as he forays into dance-based sonics. Available pre-order now, fans can get their hands on the album in a variety of formats alongside exclusive merchandise.
