Naarm/Melbourne-based post-punk/indie duo Skydeck have unveiled their sophomore album, Coupon. The musical project of Dominic Kearton and Mitchum Clemens, this new era from the duo builds upon their unique take of indie rock, with the paid having worked on the record remotely throughout last year.
Sonically, the duo draw from the cold, post-punk sounds of the 1980s, whilst conceptually they move away from the anti-capitalist themes explored on their debut, Eureka Moment. Instead, they move inward, exploring their own resignation and place within the world.
Creating Coupon served as a way to stay connected whilst working from Sydney and Mexico respectively, sending musical ideas back and forth. This process is revealed throughout album, with the implementation of field recordings and phone memos woven throughout the tracks.
