Control is the latest single from Adelaide born, Melbourne raised singer Shahrae. The edgy track is reminiscent of the baselines we used to dance to in the 90’s but with a modern darker twist. At times you could compare it to Taylor Swift’s Look What You Made Me Do, but you could actually see it featured on a Birds of Prey soundtrack.
Speaking of the track, Shahrae shares, “I wrote ‘Control’ about feeling out of control. Feeling like a part of yourself that you dislike is the one in control, watching over everything and making decisions while you just kinda sit and watch. My co-producer, Rudy, sent me the bass track and verse one just came to me, I almost felt like it wrote itself. I wanted to write about feeling as if a part of yourself that you don’t really like, or maybe even your mental health, like depression, anxiety, if the one pulling the strings and taking the steering wheel. It’s the one in your head making decisions while you just watch and suffer the consequences.”
After a string of stellar single releases and her debut EP, Shahrae gained the title of Asia-Pacific winner of the Vans Musicians Wanted competition. Following up the win with her hit single Like The Others Do, the musician went on to perform live shows including Laneway Music Festival.
