Melbourne-based trio Sudden Debt are gearing up to drop their new single, IIHII. If you can't wait to give the track a spin, you can listen to the song right here on MILKY!
Opening with droning synth work and sparse percussion, the experimental track creates tension with the marriage of entrancing vocals and beguiling guitar lines unfurling above moody production. The songs conceptual nature is hidden to the listener through the implementation of layered vocals and improvised lyricism, leading you to create your own narrative soundtracked by an engaging listening experience.
"IIHII is about doing more with less. Less gear, less time on stage, less time in the studio. The song is supposed to sound good being played to an empty room. There is a deliberate absence of narrative in IIHII. The lyrics are single words, written down as stream of consciousness in the studio and improvised live. The vocals are deliberately obscured to switch the focus from thinking about what a song means (i.e. "understanding the words") to using a voice like percussion, the bass guitar is changed to a bass synthesiser, the kick drum is removed and with it the rhythms we know, and the rate of the delay on the guitar is the focus opposed to the chords played." the trio share.
To celebrate the release, the band will take to the stage at Melbourne's Nighthawks on September 29. Joined by Techno Biddes and Orbits, tickets will be available to purchase on the door.
