Having just wrapped up their east coast tour, Perth psych-rockers Pond have shared their new single, Hang A Cross On Me. Marking the return of Cowboy John, the release arrives alongside a dance-tastic visual, directed by Alex Haygarth and POND frontman Nicholas Allbrook. The song is set to appear on the deluxe edition of POND's ninth studio album, 9, set to arrive later this month
“Hang A Cross On Me was made infinitely cooler by the return of Cowboy John - musician, poet, fashion icon, Poon's Head Studio regular, legend. We got Cowboy to feature on Hobo Rocket back in the day. In both songs he insisted on improvising his own lyrics and on only doing one take, and both, of course, were perfect. He meditates on love, life, the universe and everything with his signature fantastical surrealism and cosmic wonder. It's always a pleasure working with him. He is incredibly rare and brilliant and we love him," Allbrook shares of the bands latest offering.
9's deluxe edition will be made available on an exclusive, metallic silver 180g double vinyl pressing, featuring an etching and a holographic gatefold sleeve, a 12 page booklet and four brand new tracks. Joining Hang A Cross On Me is My Funny Serpentine The TAB Took My Baby From Me and the previously released Lights of Leeming.
Laced with tongue-in-cheek lyricism that provides as many entertaining one liners as it does introspective examination, 9 pushed against the boundaries of the bands previous releases. There’s a more open approach to creating and writing, with their process for this record embedded within each track. The five-piece went into making this album wanting a change, improvising tracks on tape reels which were then moulded and curated down into the collection of songs we hear today. This new way of working proved wonders, with Pond delivering a shining moment within their triumphant musical treasure trove. Read our full review of 9 here.
