Accelerate is out now!

Molly Payton has unveiled her new single, Accelerate. To celebrate the release, the musician has curated an exclusive playlist for MILKY.

“I had dealt with a lot of the heavier parts of what I’ve been through in the last few years, but I hadn’t fully captured all the chaos and the fun that I’d had as well. I just wanted to write something fun and not take myself too seriously and Accelerate was the answer to that. It’s a driving, roaring song about setting yourself free and diving headfirst into things without worrying too much about the consequences. I get asked quite often if I’m going in the singer-songwriter direction rather than this heavier band sound, but I think I’ll always have a foot in each camp because playing a song like this live is the most fun a girl could have.” Payton says of the track.

PERFECT - THE SMASHING PUMPKINS:

I love the energy of this. The way it falls into the choruses is so smooth and I tried to do that with Accelerate - trying to keep the song feeling fluid.

SUGAR KANE - SONIC YOUTH:

Similarly to Perfect, this has a great lazy cool energy to it. I love the guitar tone.

CLOSING TIME -  SEMISONIC:

I was listening to heaps of this cheesy 90s rock the summer we recorded Accelerate. I love big payoff choruses.

YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE - NEW RADICALS:

Again, I was having a big cheesy summer. This song makes you feel invincible when you listen to it, and I tried to get some of that into Accelerate.

ATLANTIC CITY - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN:

More of a lyrical reference, I mention Bruce in the second verse of AccelerateNebraska was my most listened to album that summer, I always listened to it when I was driving.

VAPOUR TRAIL – RIDE:

Another great song for driving, I love the production in this.

TALKING STRAIGHT - ROLLING BLACKOUTS COASTAL FEVER:

A long-time favourite of mine, never fails to make me excited when I listen to it. I love putting it on when I’m getting ready to go out, or pack for a trip.

MASTERPIECE - BIG THIEF:

This was the first Big Thief album I ever listened to, and it’s stayed a big influence throughout all my music. Adrianne Lenker is my favourite songwriter.

APHASIA – PINEGROVE:

I wrote this track about my boyfriend, and this is our ‘song’. He introduced me to Pinegrove when we met, and they’ve become a huge influence for me.

MORE THAN THIS - ROXY MUSIC:

Another great cheesy anthem.

BELINDA SAYS – ALVVAYS:

I’ve loved Alvvays for a long time. I love the vocal arrangement in their music, there’s a bit of that in the chorus of accelerate.
