Australian singer-songwriter Merryn Jeann has dropped her new single, NUN AT THE AIRPORT. To celebrate the release, the singer has curated an exclusive for MILKY full of some of her favourite tracks.

“As I peered out my hotel room window, I saw a small flock of nuns silently bustling around, heading up on the escalator to check in. I wondered what they were doing and imagined they were feeling far from god, and the only way they could get closer to the divine again was to literally get on an aeroplane and ask what the hell was going on.” the singer shares.

ARTHUR RUSSELL - PICTURE OF BUNNY RABBIT

I’ve been moved by Arthur Russell’s world since I was recording my first short album in 2017. There are so many songs that I hold so close of his, but when I heard Picture of Bunny Rabbit from the latest album of the same name released on Audika Records, I reckon I heard one of the most beautiful genius pieces of music ever. Something about hearing ‘new’ music from someone whose body is no longer living is a wildly spooky and precious gift.

PJ HARVEY - HORSES IN MY DREAMS

There’s something so raw and intimate about this track. As a horse girl child myself, I feel like I dream of horses often, of the ones I loved as a kid and the ones I hope to meet when I’m old and living on a small farm. This song and its images perfectly capture the feeling of yearning.

MARIAH - SHINZO NO TOBIRA

This song makes me feel excited about music and how music can make you feel, it’s electric and peaceful, and it feels like it comes from the Earth.

GLADYS LAZER- VERONICA

I saw the last 30 seconds of a Gladys Lazer concert in Montreal years ago. Gal (GL) was screaming out ‘I am infinite’ before throwing his drumsticks into the crowd whilst simultaneously jumping up to the merch desk. I kind of sat there and stared in wonder for quite a while longer. For me, Veronica holds that joyous life feeling in a similar vein to This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) by Talking Heads.

WAAK WAAK DJUNGI - BLACK CROW

Waak Waak Ga Min Min is one of the most beautiful albums I’ve ever heard. I wasn’t sure which song to pick from this album, but I feel Black Crow is the one I play the most. A beautiful collaboration and interpretation of traditional Yolgnu culture, song and ceremony by Yolgnu songmen Bobby Bunnungurr, Jimmy Djamunba and Peter Milaynga (d. 2007) and Victorian producer/musician Peter Mumme

HAMID AL SHAERI - MAKTOUB ALEINE

One of my favourite songs to boogie to. There’s one of the best sounds that comes in for the big groove part…not sure if it’s a synth or electric guitar running through some effects, but it gets me so. good. every. time.
