Sydney outfit Le Shiv have shared their new single, Charlie Don't Go. To celebrate the release, the band have curated an exclusive playlist for MILKY full of tracks that remind them of their time spent touring across North America

“We were drinking with this Charlie bloke for a few hours, then things started to get a little weird (hence the demonic references in the song), but Wes wasn’t too fazed and gave him a lift home on the handlebars of his bike. We’ve never seen Charlie again, but we got a song out of that night. I doubt Charlie will ever hear the song, and even if he does, I doubt he'd remember the night haha.” frontman Pencil shares.

QYRURRYUS - THE VOIDZ

“I stopped in to see Wessy on a solo road trip in Oxnard California. We went into an op shop somewhere around his place and picked up this little shitty Casio keyboard. When we got back to Wessy’s place we started trying to make songs on it. Charlie was pretty much all written on the Casio keyboard originally. This song by The Voidz we were pretty much listening to on repeat when it came out. So I tried to get Wessy to imitate the bass harp synth sound. That was kinda the original essence of the whole song with some weird Casio keyboard sounds and melodies on top.”

TASTES GOOD WITH THE MONEY - FAT WHITE FAMILY

“I think collectively as a whole band that was our most listened to song for a year or two. We all just love the sound and attitude of the song. The whole album Serfs Up by Fat White Family kinda influenced a lot of the music we wrote in America”

AMERICA! - BILL CALLAHAN

“This Bill Callahan song as soon I heard it became my road trip song to listen to while driving around America. Everytime I put it on I’d laugh just as much as I did the first time I heard it.”

CREATURE COMFORT - ARCADE FIRE

We all loved how pushy the synths were in this song and how big it all felt. We were definitely listening to synths a lot more than just guitars at the time. I think that’s why originally Charlie came out so synth based. It wasn’t until a couple years later when we went to record with the whole band we chucked a bunch more guitars on and combined our typical live sound to the track.

BLACK RIVER SWAMP - LINK WRAY

“This was a track Mossy showed me. We always just loved how it dropped in with the whole band. This song was very high on rotation when we were on the road.”
