Sydney-based downtempo duo breathe. return with their new single River Running Wild. To celebrate, they have curated an exclusive playlist for MILKY full of songs that have inspired them.

“River Running Wild is a thematic continuation from the last single “Darkest Days” and is about energy coming back to you after challenging times. Starting to feel the seeds of a renewed sense of life, moving from your mind to your body, letting yourself get lost or falling into the world around you to be lifted back up.”

MASSIVE ATTACK FEAT YOUNG FATHERS - VOODOO IN MY BLOOD

This track is pure energy. The driving groove and emotion in the vocal right tells us how to make heaviness feel warm, not dark.

PORTISHEAD - NUMB

Beth Gibbons’ voice carries truth and longing—this track showed us how to pair vulnerability and minimalism together for solid emotional weight.

JAMIE XX AND THE AVALANCHES - WHEREVER YOU GO

Moments of Sparseness, echoing and space between sounds—this helped shape our use of samples and how to collaborate at the highest level.

BURIAL - UNTRUE

The crackle, rhythmic hush, and melancholic ambience of Burial taught us how to weave memory into texture. It helps that we heard this for the first time played out loud inside a Bristol church rave by Kode9.

QUANTIC - TIME IS THE ENEMY

Pure magic. This track does something to us. Its downtempo, soulful layering reminded us that timing and restraint are really powerful—key in “Darkest Days.”

GROUPER - HEAVY WATER/I’D RATHER BE SLEEPING

Liz Harris’s cavernous, washed-out vocals inspired the dreamy, haunting spaces in a few of our songs .

VEGYN - THE PATH LESS TRAVELLED

That break, those chords, the flowing feeling of this instrumental influenced how we layer softness with presence.

MASSIVE ATTACK - PARADISE CIRCUS

A second Massive Attack pick, because its cinematic drama showed us how to balance cinematic weight with the human feel.

GIL SCOTT AND RICHARD RUSSELL OF XL RECORDINGS - ME AND THE DEVIL

Emotional, larger than life vocals paired perfectly with the production. Showed us how to meld the emotion of a lyrics with music.

BADBADNOTGOOD - HEDRON

Forever floats along and taught how to keep a good thing going.
