Canberra punk outfit Sonic Reducer recently dropped their sophomore EP SQUEEZE. We caught up with the band to unpack the release and more.
With SQUEEZE, Sonic Reducer have delivered a blistering shot of adrenaline that feels both classic and unmistakably their own. It’s an offering that distills punk down to its essential elements; urgency, frustration, catharsis.
Across six tracks, the band harnesses chaotic energy with a sharpened focus. From raw, impulsive riffs to moments of unexpected melody, SQUEEZE pushes itself in to something more self-assured and dynamic. There’s a clear evolution in both sound and songwriting that is tighter, smarter, louder. Producer Chris Collins brings a vital clarity to the mix, helping the band capture the explosive spontaneity of their earlier work, whilst amplifying their growing range. Whether leaning into tradition or tearing it apart, Sonic Reducer sound more fearless than ever.
At its core, SQUEEZE explores themes of alienation, identity, and the chaos of growing up in a world that feels increasingly incoherent. The EP takes aim at performative masculinity, the commodification of culture, and the blurred lines of modern subcultures, while still making space for vulnerability and reflection. There’s a restless tension throughout that gives the record its bite, walking lines between immaturity and self-awareness, past and present, tradition and reinvention. It’s punk with purpose, unafraid to question itself while pushing full throttle ahead.
