New Zealand indie-rock outfit NO CIGAR have dropped their new single, Best Behaviour. To celebrate, the band have shared with MILKY five tips on how not to make a bad impression when meeting the in-laws.
“Meeting the parents will always be a tense moment, laced with trepidation," says band member Willy Ferrier. "To be on one's best behaviour is the expectation. To be nervous is understandable. To be perfect is unlikely. The rawness and fragility reflect everyone's mind-state in such moments. Being an artist can't even prepare you for moments like these.”
ONE
Don’t be called ‘Steven’ - he doesn’t seem to know how to conduct himself in such settings. If you are called Steven, pretend you go by Steve, or Stevie.
TWO
Bring the guitar. Sing a song. If you don’t know how, say that you do, and figure it out before you next visit. Works a treat. Johnny Cash Folsom Prison Blues is a favourite of ours.
THREE
Don’t come empty handed. Bring a bottle or gift, or both. Maybe do your research prior with your respective partner at the time. Maybe a bottle of buttery chards.
FOUR
Compliment their house and styling choices. People like to know their choices are appreciated, even if they’re awful
FIVE
Play this great new tune by NO CIGAR called Best Behaviour on the way over. Say that you know the guys and that they’re the next big thing. If we are, then you’ll get respect, if not, we’ll get a few extra lousy streams.
Best Behaviour is out now!
