Australian electro-folk singer-songwriter and producer, Hayden Calnin has unveiled the title track of his forthcoming album, What It Means To Be Human. Due out this September, the record is set to bring folk music to a larger scale, with orchestral elements laced throughout.
Speaking of the track, Calnin shares: “Between two very long lockdowns in the State of Victoria in 2020, some friends and I went hiking and camping in the Victorian Alpine region, to regather, to reflect, to move our legs and to breathe new air. I spent a lot of time there reflecting on what was happening in the world, and the things I wanted to focus on from that point forward. It was a very important time for me to digest the global climate and what was going on inside my brain.”
What It Means To Be Human arrives alongside an official visual, created by Jordan White of Braille Face. The nostalgic fulled visual offers personal and intimate vignettes that document the human existence and evocatively capture natural landscapes.
Throughout his career, Calnin has toured extensively, having shared the stage with the likes of Matt Corby, Tom Odell, The Antlers and more. During this time, he also produced records for Australian artists including Didirri, Harrison Storm, Riley Pearce, Woodlock, NYCK, and others.
