Australian legends Gang Of Youths have shared the visual for what we consider to be one of their best tracks yet, the man himself. The moving and contemplative track is a heart-thumping ode to frontman Dave Le’aupepe's late father.
Directed by the bands longtime collaborator Joel Barney, the clip splices together shots that represent Le’aupepe's youth, with shots that capture the front mans bewitching stage presence. Barney says of the visual, “Dave came to me with the idea of creating a video that incorporated the idea of a younger version of himself. We wanted to blur the lines of the connection by making it seem like flashes of Dave reminiscing on his childhood or the younger version of himself imagining the future."
"One of the main focuses for the video was pulling together a sense of nostalgia whilst keeping it feeling dreamlike. We wanted to incorporate elements of stop motion 2D animation to give the video a textured feeling to it and to separate the two parts of the video visually, whilst still existing within the same world. Mickey, the animator, used real textured brush strokes and materials to give the video an authentic feel that visually brings the video out of the screen into something feeling material.”
Forming in 2011, Gang Of Youths have gone from strength to strength, with two acclaimed records, 2015’s The Positions and 2017’s Go Farther In Lightness, under their belt, with the latter earning them four prestigious ARIA Awards. Their 2015 premiere performance on Australia’s MTV Unplugged proved their .... as a live act, with sold out shows across the country, and support slots across Europe and the U.S with Mumford & Sons and Foo Fighters. Earlier this year, the four-piece shared their superb EP, total serene.
