Global pop-star Dua Lipa has kicked off her new era with the release of Houdini. The track serves as the lead single from the singers hotly anticipated third studio album.
Delving deeper into her established 80's-leaning sonic palette, whilst shedding the disco-based nature of her seminal album Future Nostalgia, Houdini finds the singer teaming up with Caroline Ailin, Danny L. Harle, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker with production from Parker and Harle. Opening with bombastic beats and a bubbling synth line, Lipa's inimitable vocals bring ear-worm melodies to life fuelled by tongue-in-cheek lyricism shrouded with mystery. Throughout, she explores the exciting parts of being single and opening herself to new experiences whilst also retaining her power.
“This track represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom,” the singer shares. “’Houdini’ is very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end. You never know where something may take you, that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. I’m looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans.”
Directed by Manu Cossu with cinematographer André Chemetoff, the songs visual finds the singer dancing across a rehearsal room before being joined by her dance troupe - arriving complete with matching red hair.
