Five-time ARIA award-winner and chart-topper Chet Faker has unveiled his new single, Get High. After reviving his musical project in late 2020, Nick Murphy's latest release is guaranteed to encourage a soothing smile on the inside.
Set to a funk-addled backbeat, the track begins with a swinging piano intro with Murphy showcasing his instrumental prowess before his raw vocals delve into big questions within his lyricism. The escapist lyrics are deep-seated in the soul and groove textures that are unmistakably Chet Faker. The release is accompanied by a kaleidoscopic-paint-pastiche visual, which sees Murphy and his piano take centre stage while bright and vivid colours flash around him.
Speaking of the track, Murphy shares: “Sometimes you just need a break. I find myself wanting to escape just for a little while and the song sort of showed up on its own.”
Murphy's Chet Faker project first appeared in 2012 with the Thinking in TexturesEP, winning him Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Best Independent Single/EP at the AIR Awards. His 2014 debut studio album Built on Glass debuted at number one on the Australian ARIA Charts, and appeared three times in the top ten of triple j’s Hottest 100, taking out the top spot for Talk Is Cheap.
