New Jersey-based singer-songwriter, Kevian Kraemer has shared his new single, down under. The release arrives alongside an official visual.
There is a quiet insistence to the track that grabs you before you even know it. The opening guitar line loops in your head immediately - bright and bittersweet enough to linger like a memory you can't fully place. It's effortless, but carries the weight of the songs heart from its opening moment. Produced with Harry Charles and co-written with Charlie Oriain, the song moves with space and intention. The arrangement swells and softens in conversation with the lyrics; light open moments five space for reflection, whilst bolder bursts of instrumentation and rhythm push forward, giving the song a real drive.
Kraemer's vocals match that movement. He can be soft and intimate one moment, then sharp and driving the next, giving the song a heartbeat that alternates between closeness and propulsion. Lines land with warmth, but they also cut through with energy and punch, carrying the emotion in both quiet and urgent moments. It's a dynamic performance that keeps you moving alongside with him, never letting the feeling stagnate.
“I wrote this about a girl who I’m a little bit trauma-bonded to in a time where we were both super into each other,” shares Kraemer. “This was in September 2024 and the whole catalyst of the fallout and tension was that she was taking a trip to Australia and wouldn’t be back until July 2025, hence the name ‘down under,’ which is kind of great because the lyrics ‘cause i hate blowing smoke, and you’re still going under’ can be interpreted in so many interesting ways. The whole point of the song is that I wanted her to find someone there so I could just stop being upset about the whole situation and move on.” That tension - the push and pull of attachment, longing, and release - forms the songs emotional core. It's not heartbreak exactly; its the ache of something fleeting, the quiet recognition that it's time to let go, even when it feels impossible to move on. The lyrics trace the edges of a relationship that lingers just long enough to leave a mark.
down under also feels like the next step in Kraemer's evolution. Since returning earlier this year with you woke me up, the musician has been refining his palette, blending indie-pop buoyancy with subtle nostalgia. From the viral success of Fly, to his breakout single Attention, and the release of his debut EP, Seventeen, he has been building a trajectory that feels effortless but intentional. Add sold-out North American headline shows to the mix, and it's cleat the momentum is real.
