One More Trip Around The Sun is out now!

Austrian indie duo, Cari Cari have released their third studio album One More Trip Around The Sun. To celebrate, the duo has shared with MILKY the music that helped shape and influence the record.

BARBAQUES - BAIANA

We played a show in Stockholm in late 2023, around the time we had already started working on the album. After the show, there was a DJ night where only 7-inch records were played, and the first track they dropped was Baianá (Wolf Müller’s drum dub). It completely blew us away. We had used the jaw harp in songs before, but hearing it in that track inspired us to bring it back, which ultimately led to the genesis of the album’s title track.

BLACK SABBATH - PLANET CARAVAN

We’ve both been massive Black Sabbath fans for as long as we can remember. In fact, Alex’s first electric guitar was an Epiphone Tony Iommi signature—cross fretboard inlays and all. Planet Caravan has always transported us to another dimension, so when we were writing Goodbye, Stranger, we wanted to push the production to evoke that same weightless, drifting-off-into-the-stratosphere feeling.

FLEETWOOD MAC - THE CHAIN

Believe it or not, this was the first record where we ever used acoustic guitars. We had tried in the past, but we could never quite capture the sound we were looking for. Then, a producer friend sent us a video of Rumours’ engineer breaking down their recording technique—using a lavalier mic taped inside the guitar. That was a game-changer. Finally, we could achieve the sound we had in our heads, and as a result, acoustic guitars feature on multiple songs on the album.

BAB L’ BLUZ

Alex has family in Morocco, and every summer, his cousins would visit, bringing not only counterfeit PS1 games but also introducing him to new music. Since they lived in Essaouira—the home of the world’s biggest Gnawa festival—Gnawa music became part of our musical DNA. We love blending Gnawa influences into our sound, and Bab L’ Bluz is a perfect example of a modern take on that tradition.

AIR - LA FEMME D’ARGENT

We saw them live in Vienna playing Moon Safari, and it was a mind-blowing experience. Their use of synths and Rhodes has always been a huge inspiration for us. The way they craft immersive soundscapes is truly unparalleled.

OASIS - CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVA

At our core, we’re a rock band, but for the last ten years, we’ve pushed our production to blend rock with electronic music, hip-hop elements, and big, cinematic drums. Lately, though, it feels like we’ve reached the end of that road. We’re getting more excited about bands that just sound like a band—because there aren’t many left. Champagne Supernova was a major inspiration for us to reconnect with the way we started: two people in a garage, jamming.

CLAIRO - BLOUSE

I stumbled upon Pretty Girl on YouTube a few years ago and have been a fan ever since. The production on Blouse is incredible—every time I listen, it feels like I’m sitting in a tiny room, and she’s singing just for me. It’s fragile and intimate yet modern and expansive at the same time. That was exactly the feeling we were chasing with My Hometown.

JUSTICE FT. TAME IMPALA - NEVERENDER

Cross by Justice changed my life. The first time I heard it, it rewired my brain and opened up an entirely new world of possibilities. I got Ableton and started experimenting with layering sounds on sounds. Even though our music doesn’t necessarily sound like that, the approach stuck with me. That’s why I was so excited to see Justice collaborate with Kevin Parker—it felt like two of my worlds colliding.

KHRUANGBIN & VIEUX FARKA TOURÉ - SAVANNE

We’ve always been fans of Khruangbin and their ability to build lush, hypnotic soundscapes—something we strive for in our own music. We recently played a few shows in their hometown, Austin, Texas, and it gave us a deeper appreciation of where their sound comes from. What we love most about their collaboration with Vieux Farka Touré (Son of Ali) is how seamlessly they blended their signature style with African motifs. We’re always searching for new sounds and ideas to evolve our music, and that album was incredibly inspiring for us.

DOPE LEMON - HEY YOU

Angus Stone’s work has been a big inspiration for us—he seems to approach music in a way that feels very familiar to us. We were lucky enough to play a show with Dope Lemon at SXSW and hang out backstage. Connecting with Angus and Brad, who record most of the Dope Lemon material together, was a really special moment for us.
