Sydney-based singer-songwriter Annie Bass has returned with a brand new track, Step Aside. The drop marks the singers first release under her new label home, Sweat It Out, and is set to appear on her forthcoming EP.
The intimate and vulnerable track juxtaposes breaking up with someone, even though your feelings of love towards them ring strong. Bass' delicate vocals float above stripped back productions, creating an atmospheric sonic realm that allow the singers vocals to take centre stage.
Speaking of the track, the singer shares: "We are probably all familiar with the cliché Hollywood line ‘look into my eyes and tell me you don’t love me anymore’. Some of us are determined to go it alone, that we will sacrifice being with the one we love because of a false belief that we can protect someone from feeling any pain. Well, that was me. It was easier to walk away than it was to be honest. Share too much and I'd scare them off. Not share enough and they'd figure it out themselves. So the answer? Leave before it gets too complicated. On first listen I guess this sounds like a break-up song, but the truth is I was more in love than ever. Protecting my secrets just felt more important."
Throughout her career, Bass has taken to the stage at national festivals including Splendour in the Grass, Vivid LIVE, Falls Festival, Big Sound and Groovin the Moo, and has supported Wafia, Alta, Touch Sensitive, Total Giovanni, No Mono, Elizabeth Rose, Banoffee and others.
