London via Sydney artist Sakr has unveiled his new single, Cruel. To celebrate the release, the musician has shared five things he thinks everyone should know about him.

“Cruel is a sonic message to the echo chamber of anxiety. It’s about feeling stuck in a room with your thoughts, paralysed by their gravity. The sonic structure is a juxtaposition of one’s internal battle and the harsh nature of the external world”. the musician shares.

I’M INTROVERTED

I embrace silence—not as a void to be filled but as a source of inspiration. It allows me to hear ideas and draw inspiration from the depths of my own mind, channelling my inner thoughts and feelings into my music. The quiet serves as a mirror to my inner world.

I HAVE TACTILE DEFENSIVENESS

I’m really sensitive to touch. I can’t go near certain fabrics, and I can’t touch paper if my hands are at a certain level of dryness or temperature. But on a creative level, this led to textures and sounds being woven together—when I hear sounds, I see texture, and when I feel textures, I hear sounds.

I HAVE A CREATIVE GHOST

In the creative process, I am a believer that my creativity doesn’t just come from me. I have a “creative ghost” that works with me. The beautiful part of this thinking is that if I do well, I can’t take all the credit, and if I do horribly, I can’t take all the blame. Keeps you grounded and safe from ego and that real low you can get when your art isn’t working. It sounds a bit wishy-washy, but it truly is a lifesaver. (Read - Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert).

I LOVE MIXING ORGANIC AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IN MUSIC

Putting something like a piano or found sounds from the outside world through digital samplers or effects and breaking those sounds to find them a new sonic identity. That collaboration and mixing of mediums is one of my favourite parts of the creative process.

I'M A SELF-PROFESSED GROWN-UP KID NERD

As I write this, I’m building these DIY audio-reactive lights. I'm turning MIDI into CV, then using a piece of equipment to turn CV into DC current, which triggers the lights and… Ohhhhh, this point is actually—I’m really a grown-up kid nerd person, and I feel like a crazy scientist who needs to go outside more.
