Aussie songstress Vera Blue has today dropped her killer new track Lie To Me. Alongside the surprise release, the singer has also announced her signing with US label Republic Records.

On the track, the singer gives a phenomenal and mesmerising vocal performance, reminiscent of certain vocal characteristics of musical legend Kate Bush. Utilising synthesised sounds and spellbinding vocal samples, Vera sings over the pulsating beat “Would you lie to me? If I lie, would you lie? Say goodbye to me?”. These questions are directed at the singer herself, as she navigates the voices in her own head that amplify the anxiety of a new relationship whilst also imploring the singer to enjoy herself.

"When you go through a lot of emotional shit, you can’t imagine yourself in a new relationship. Then you suddenly fall into one, and the fear and mistrust can be overwhelming: ‘is this as amazing as it seems - or is it going to blow up in my face again!” Vera said of the tracks meaning.

The song follows up the singers collaboration with Flume, Rushing Back. Lie To Me sees Vera continues her collaboration with her producing/co-writing team of Andy and Thom Mak and engineer Jackson Barclay.

“The lyrics and melodies that I wrote with Thom came from a more poetic and obscure experimental place for both of us.” Vera said. “With Andy digging into new exciting sonic landscapes imitating the raw emotion and Jackson bringing the tones to life tracking various instruments through the amazing sounding console and outboard gear at the grove studios. This song had us all wide eyed and buzzing.”

With her new track and US record label, it won’t be long before Vera takes over the world Republic Records houses global superstars Taylor Swift, Lorde, Ariana Grande and Florence + The Machine (can we manifest a Florence and Vera collaboration please?!).

The singer will premiere an exclusive live performance of Lie To Me on YouTube Music Sessions, a new initiative from the online video-sharing platform who have partnered with ARIA. Fans can watch the performance at 7pm AEST on Wednesday August 26.
