UNFD have announced the signing of Wollongong solo project Up Late. Alongside the announcement comes the news that Up Late’s next single, Alone, is out this Friday.
The musical project of Max Pasalic, Up Late launched earlier this year by competing in Triple J’s DIY Supergroup competition. Not long after, Up Late shot up the Unearthed charts with their debut single Friends.
Taking influence from emo, rock, pop, rap and heavy sonic sounds, Up Late navigates the terrain of fusing these differing sounds together. Through fusing Pasalic’s emo-punk and trap backgrounds together, Up Late is filling the gap within the Australian music industry where no other artist seems to be crossing these two genres.
Of the upcoming single, Pasalic shared” “I wanted to create a song that was equal parts smooth and somber as it was harsh and aggressive. It’s a metaphor for how my mind operates. It’s a crashing of worlds, one moment I can be relaxed, and in-control and the next moment anxiety overtakes me and I become a different person"
"I grew up an only child and I learned to love my own company. When I started to play in bands and go on tour I needed to learn how to be uncomfortable – and that’s when I changed,” Pasalic continued. It’s easy to lose yourself when you’re dealing with stress, anxiety and pressure – you can party and distract yourself for years until you need to face reality. Sometimes you need to re-learn what it’s like to be embrace loneliness. Sometimes you need to be Alone."
Alone is out this Friday. Watch our interview with Up Late below!
