There’s a striking clarity to MISS HER, one that cuts through its bright guitars and soaring chorus to reveal something deeply human underneath. It’s the sound of a band widening their scope without losing their edge, using melody not to soften the blow, but to make it hit harder.
Taken from their upcoming album GODSPEED (out November 28), MISS HER finds These New South Whales weaving indie-rock immediacy into their DIY punk roots. It’s a track that grapples with grief and the permanence of loss, as frontman Jamie Timony delivers one of his most vulnerable performances to date. “Over the couple of years we were writing and recording, a few close friends lost people very dear to them,” he reflects. “I was thinking of them while recording the vocals. I think about death quite a lot. Definitely got a bit of death anxiety... the thought that it can all just change so drastically at any time. Your whole life can be rocked in a single moment. Flipped upside down forever... But this is life, I suppose!” The track builds steadily toward a cathartic, full-throttle outro. It’s a moment of release that feels as much about survival as sorrow.
Produced by Ben Greenberg (Depeche Mode, Drab Majesty, Ceremony), MISS HER captures one side of GODSPEED’s wide-ranging sound. The album is set to weave new sonic threads in to the bands established sound, unified by the band’s instinct to follow whatever path feels the most honest. “It’s been fun leaning into different styles and genres on this album and just following our noses,” Timony says.
Between this new single, their upcoming national tour with Delivery and The Antics, and a fresh signing to Ground Control Touring, the next era of These New South Whales is well in motion.
GODSPEED is out November 28.
