English indie rockers, The Wombats have unveiled a new taste of their fifth studio album, Fix Yourself, Not The World, with the release of their new single, Everything I Love Is Going To Die.
Speaking about the track, frontman Matthew Murphy says, “The song is about the impermanence of life, and with that in mind, the beauty of each passing second. Key line for me is 'Icarus Was My Best Friend, So I'm Gonna Make Him Proud In The End', which I guess is a playful take on living life to its fullest even though the consequences of that might be dire. Certainly not a call to Nihilism however, but perhaps a call to being present and the joy that can be found in appreciating each moment we find ourselves in,” he explains.
The creation of If You Ever Leave, I’m Coming With You saw the trio undertake a new approach to their creative process, recording the record remotely from their respective homes over the past year. With Murphy based in Los Angeles, bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen in Oslo and drummer Dan Haggis in London, the trio recorded their individual parts before sending them off to the albums producers, Jacknife Lee (U2, The Killers), Gabe Simon (Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey), Paul Meaney (Twenty One Pilots, Nothing But Thieves) and Mark Crew (Bastille, Rag‘n’Bone Man).
“We’re so excited for people to hear this new album! We’ve explored new genres and pushed ourselves further than ever musically. It will always stand out for us in our memories from our other albums as we recorded it across three cities during lockdown, and we weren’t all in the same room at the same time!” says Haggis.
Kicking off in Perth on June 5 next year, The Wombats will be taking to Aussie stages in Hobart, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra, before wrapping up their national tour in Brisbane on June 17. The seven date headline tour is a welcomed return to Aussie stages for the trio, with tickets on sale 9am, August 23.
