It's been a massive year for The Wiggles, celebrating their 30th anniversary and introducing new cast members, whilst also farewelling the first ever female Wiggle, Emma Watkins. Well they're ready to wiggle into 2022, with the announcement of a brand new double album, ReWiggled.
The release is set to celebrate the children's band we all know and love, whilst also heading into unchartered territory as the group take on some of the worlds biggest hits. Side One of the album will bring together some of our favourite Australian musicians, including Spacey Jane, DZ Deathrays, The Chats, Stella Donnelly, San Cisco, Emily Wurramara, Polish Club, Dami Im, Donny Benet, Emma Donovan and The Putbacks, Custard, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Luca Brasi, and more, who will all bring their own flavour to classic songs from The Wiggles. The first taste is available now, with the release of the 5 track ReWiggled EP.
“There were plenty of reasons 'D.O.R.O.T.H.Y. (My Favourite Dinosaur)' was the track we chose! First and foremost, we've accidentally stumbled upon Peppa's insanely good Dorothy impressions, and the ad-libs really gave her space to shine. It was easy to re-interpret the song and comfortably make it sound like something we'd release, and we had an absolute blast putting it together in the studio. Honestly, wouldn't be surprised if we play it live at least once or twice...” Spacey Jane share.
On the albums second side, we'll be offered “wigglified” versions of tracks from the likes of AC/DC, Queen, Rihanna, James Brown, The Chats, Fatboy Slim, and many more. Who hasn't always wanted a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody from The Wiggles?
Speaking of the release, Wiggles founder and Blue Wiggle Anthony Field, shares:
“It’s been really enjoyable, and also so humbling, hearing all these wonderful artists doing their versions of Wiggles songs – they’re all so very talented. And it’s been a real thrill to get back in the studio together with all the Wiggles – the current members and the OG’s – to record some cover versions of our own. We had so much fun doing ‘Elephant’ for Like A Version, and now we’re really excited for people to hear what we’ve cooked up for this record!”
The Wiggles are set to hit the road next year, bringing together the newly expanded line-up for shows throughout the day, whilst The OG Wiggles take over to rock out at night. The late shows will see the group joined by a rotating cast of artists including The Polish Club, DZ Deathrays, Planet and more to be announced.
ReWiggled is out March 11 2022. Listen to the released tracks below.
