South Coast favourites The Vanns are back with a stellar slice of alt-rock goodness! Red Lights is the first taste of new music from the four-piece since the release of their acclaimed debut album Through The Walls in 2019. The track arrives just in time for the bands extensive national tour, taking place this June and July.
Recorded in Byron Bay with Chris Collins (Gang of Youths, Tyne James Organ, Ruby Fields), the track showcases the bands growth not only as a band, but as individuals, with each member elevating their musicianship to deliver a resounding moment within their discography. Built upon melodies, vocals and rhythms, Red Lights capture the electric nature of their live performances, whilst conceptually commenting on the inner struggle of battling ones own demons.
Speaking of the track, drummer Andrew Banovich shares: “I view Red Light as a story of a "lack of control" state of being. Not everything is as it may seem, jumping to reactions may cause more harm than good. For myself this single was the first of many written with myself involved and shows a move towards a sound that is influenced a lot more on groove and feel.”
The release is accompanied by an official music video, directed by Todd Hardingham. The cinematic visual was filmed on location in Broken Hill, with the four-piece wandering through the natural Australian terrain, before crossing paths in the vast red dessert to jam within a wondrous, natural setting.
“It was hot, we were severely dehydrated and we are running in RM William boots, not the best combo but damn we had a ball. We headed out to Broken Hill with our best mate and videographer Todd Hardingham (Senor Friday) to shoot a clip and try to capture as much red outback dirt as possible. We had no real plan, we were more in it for the journey and just being a bunch of young lads keen for a road trip but I'm stoked with how it turned out!” shares frontman Jimmy Vann.
The four-piece will be hitting the road this June, following on from their stellar performance at Wollongong's Yours & Owls Festival earlier this month. Kicking off on the Sunshine Coast on June 10, the tour will continue on to Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong, Hobart and Forth, before wrapping up at Melbourne's The Forum on July 16.
