South Coast four-piece The Vanns are back with their new single, Ever. The release is accompanied by the announcement of the bands long-awaited sophomore album, Last Of Your Kind, set to arrive this May.
Teaming up once again with producer Chris Collins (Skeggs, Middle Kids Tyne-James Organ), the track explores a relationship that has fallen apart and is heading towards its demise, and the lingering thoughts and emotions that plague your mind when you realise it's over. Laced with introspective and vulnerable lyricism, frontman Jimmy Vann's magnetic vocal performance flows above a carefully crafted indie-rock soundscape.
“Thematically, Ever is about the breakdown of a relationship that seemed to have all the boxes ticked as it pertains to the future and longevity of it all. The assumption that you’ll be with a person for life after constantly being reassured that nothing will ever change between the two of you, and when it ends, you’re left with a bevy of questions why and suppressed emotions that you’re dying to express. It’s a desire for answers, understanding, and, if attainable, some kind of closure.” the band share of the track.
They add of the album, “The idea behind Last Of Your Kind and a message throughout the album is living the most fruitful and spontaneous life you possibly can, in saying that, there is also no hiding the fact that we can all hit rock bottom, but you will always make it out the other side. Drop all the walls of questioning what other people may think about you. Embrace being different, embrace being weird and embrace being you, there will never be another... so make YOU the best fucking version you can.”
To celebrate the release of their sophomore effort, The Vanns will host three intimate album launch shows. Kicking off at The Espy in Melbourne on May 19, the run of shows will continue on to Sydney's Oxford Art Factory the following evening, before wrapping up at The Zoo in Brisbane on May 25.
