Sydney musician Tesse has made his return, unveiling his new single My Madeline.
The musical project of Tom Stephens, the musician produced the track himself, enlisting Melbourne based engineers Alex O'Gorman (Angie McMahon) and Joe Carra (Courtney Barnett, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard) to lend their talents to the song. The release showcases Stephens’ unique vocals, floating above soaring guitar lines and driving drums, accompanied by mellow keys.
Speaking of the track, Stephens shares: “My Madeline isn’t about any one specific person. I wrote it with the kind of person in mind who always has their fists up and is pushing back against life. They care a lot and sometimes too deeply. So much of our everyday experiences and occurrences are unfair and a struggle, but there is power in letting go when we feel disoriented and powerless and seeing it as a source for growth.”
The release is accompanied by an official visual for the track, depicting a variety of different people from all walks of life finding themselves in the same setting. Directed by acclaimed Sydney filmmaker Olivia Costa, the clip suggests that Madeline is in some ways every one of them.
Stephens will take to the stage with his four piece band for a headline show at Sydney’s Waywards (The Bank Hotel) in Newtown. Prior to his headline show, he will be Sydney band YEEVS at a sold out show on November 29 as a part of ARIA initiative, Great Southern Nights. More details here.
