Global superstar, the one and only Taylor Swift, is celebrating the first anniversary of the release of her record breaking album, folklore. To celebrate the momentous occasion, Swift has released the original version of the albums bonus track, the lakes, which took out number 2 spot on our Top 20 Songs of 2020.

The new release takes on a more orchestral approach to the song, with swelling strings and delicate instrumentation elevating the poetic track to another level. the lakes is an affirmation of love and feelings of isolation living within a society that places her under a miscroscope. But all that floats away when compared to the solace found with her beloved.

Speaking of the anniversary, Swift shares: "It’s been one year since we escaped the real world together and imagined ourselves someplace simpler. With tall tall trees and salt air. Where you’re allowed to wear lace nightgowns that make you look like a Victorian ghost every day & no one will side eye you cause no one is around. It’s just you and your imaginary cabin and the stories you make up to pass the time. To say thank you for all you have done to make this album what it was, I wanted to give you the original version of The Lakes. Happy 1 year anniversary to Rebekah, Betty, Inez, James, Augustine, and the lives we all created around them. Happy Anniversary, folklore."

The eighth studio album from the singer landed as a surprise, with Swift announcing the album mere hours before its release. Landing the coveted ARIA #1 Album in Australia, and taking out the top spot around the world, folklore became the best selling album of 2020, broke the Guinness World Record for the biggest opening day on Spotify for a record by a female artist, and became the musicians seventh consecutive number-one album on the US on the Billboard 200, holding the number one spot for eight weeks. Swift took home the award for Album Of The Year for folklore, becoming the first female artist to win the award three times, following her 2010 win for Fearless, followed up 1989 in 2016.
