Genre-bending Wollongong artist, Stevan has today shared his new song, Onyx, accompanied by a stunning visual. The track is from the musicians upcoming sophomore mixtape, Ontogeny, out next month.
The track is darker offering from the musician, beginning with an uptempo beat amid stripped back ornamentation. The song then takes a drastic shift with with heart-wrenching guitar strokes that cut through the singers mesmerising echoed vocals, floating atop the commanding soundscape. Speaking of the track, Stevan shares, “Onyx was a really interesting and fun track to make. It’s an anthem about finding self confidence and aiming for the best. The video highlights these themes in an artistic and visually stunning way.”
The songs accompanying black and white visual depicts the musician within a remote landscape that transitions into colour, creating two juxtaposing visuals that mirror the distinct two-part structure of the track. The visual sees Stevan continue his collaboration with creative director Michael Dole & cinematographer Eddy Ming. Visually, the music video incorporates natural elements and textures of the Australian landscape.
To celebrate his 2020 releases, Stevan will take to the stage for two intimate performances this November. Apart of the Great Southern Nights initiative that will see the return of live music to NSW with over 1000 performances, the musician will perform two shows at Mary’s Underground in Sydney on Thursday, November 26, followed by a one-night only show in his hometown at the University of Wollongong’s Bandroom on Saturday, December 12. The performances will see the musician performing new music from both Just Kids and Ontogeny for the first time with his full live band for the first time ever.
