Perth hitmakers Spacey Jane have offered up a new taste of their sophomore album, Here Comes Everybody, with the release of their new single It’s Been A Long Day.
Offering a more down-tempo moment from the indie-rockers, the guitar led track places frontman Caleb Harper's swelling vocals above mesmerising melodies and percussion. Lyrically confessional and intimate, the song captures unspoken words to a loved one, but unable to find the words in the moment.
Speaking of the track, Harper shares: “This song was written pre and post a breakup in 2020. It was a way to tell someone that I loved them when I was feeling so anxious and down in the early stages of COVID - and I didn’t know if I was doing enough to really tell them. In the end I became so overwhelmed and unwell during a six month period that I convinced myself that music was a lost cause, and the complete loss of identity resulted in the breakdown of the relationship. I’ve got something to say, was trying to say all the things I felt for her at once. In the end, after the breakup, the final lines of the song are - I really loved you.”
Spacey Jane’s 2020 debut album Sunlight peaked at #2 on the ARIA charts, with platinum single Booster Seat taking out the number 2 spot in triple j’s Hottest 100. Last year, the band took home Song Of The Year at the ARIA Awards for Booster Seat. The four-piece are currently embarking on their UK and European tour, before scheduled shows in North America.
