Australian band South Summit are set to take to the stage at SXSW Sydney next week. In anticipation, the band have shared with MILKY their gear-breakdown for their two performances at the festival.
Sydney will be the first city outside Austin, Texas to gather the world’s most inspired thinkers, creators and innovators in the Southern Hemisphere. From Sunday, October 15 to Sunday, October 22, 2023, SXSW Sydney will see the world’s pre-eminent creative industries come together across content pillars of Tech and Innovation, Gaming, Music, Screen and Culture within a stacked week-long program. SXSW Sydney will take over a number of venues across the city, where official showcasing artists will perform in front of industry reps, media and thousands of fans and fellow musicians from across the globe.
For SXSW this year, here's the lowdown on our gear setup.
Our two guitarists will be running Fender Hot Rods and a selection of essential pedals, including the Blues Driver, Chorus CE2w, Big Muff, DD200 Delay, and Oceans 11 Reverb by Electro Harmonics – these are our top choices.
On the bass side, the Markbass MB Tube Amp is the go-to amp, and Josh, our bassist, typically keeps it simple with a tuner, occasionally adding a Big Muff for some extra punch on heavy sections of songs.
In terms of drums, Nathan always travels with his Ludwig Supralite 14x5.5 Snare Drum, DW 3000 Kick Pedal and Zildjian K Cymbals. As for drumsticks, there’s no one better in the business than Big Sound Percussion, where he opts for the 2B or 5B stick. Additionally, he also runs a Roland SPD-SX for backing tracks and extra musical layers that add to our live show.
When it comes to microphones, we're all about Sennheiser, and our recent upgrade to the IEMs XSW for our in-ear monitors has been a game-changer. We're pretty excited about our setup this year, and we can't wait to share our music with you at SXSW!
