Florida-based musical duo SOFI TUKKER have treated us all with their sophomore album WET TENNIS. We caught up with the duo to chat about the record, creating the albums visual identity, their forthcoming Australian tour and so much more!
Offering up scintillating electropop cuts, the zesty body of work is full of dance-floor bangers that are sure to become your new go-to soundtrack. Sun-drenched soundscapes will have you feeling like you're sizzling by the pool and someone has just done a cannonball. Across the record, WET TENNIS is a celebration of joy and feeling alive, celebrating individuality to create a positive and uplifting listening experience for their beloved "Freak Fam".
Having spent the past three years working on the album, the duo tested out new material on weekly live streams with their fans, who would offer feedback that would help shape the body of work. Their use of tennis based visuals symbolises the duos own creative process, feeding off each others ideas, whilst also pushing up against traditional classist views of the sport. Across the albums music videos and imagery, we're offered a vibrant and erotic take on the sport, with original designs from Johnny Wujek
Weaving together genre-defying threads into the electronic based soundscapes, Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern met in 2014 at an art gallery, a chance meeting which soon blossomed into an illustrious collaborative partnership. Their debut EP, Soft Animals, arrived two years later, before the duo shared their debut album with the world, Treehouse. The GRAMMY Award nominated release earned the duo a legion of fans and marked their first release under Ultra Music.
SOFI TUKKER are set to return to Australia this year, visiting our shores for a string of shows this July. Kicking off at Splendour in the Grass in Byron Bay on July 22, the duo will perform a string of headline shows in Sydney and Adelaide, before wrapping up in Perth on July 29. Tickets are on sale now!
