American singer Slayyyter has dropped her new single, the emotionally-charged pop track Clouds, serving as the latest taste of her debut album, Troubled Paradise. The release is accompanied by a visual, continuing the singers collaboration Munachi Osegbu (Megan Thee Stallion, Joji).
With soaring melodies set atop a pounding bass, with track threads together hints of melancholy with moments of clarity whilst letting out what lies heavy on her mind. Heartfelt lyrics shine over club beats with a hook that will be stuck in your head all day. The tracks visual depict the singer within a variety of various dream states: on a cloud, a dainty dinner party, and a field of flowers. These vibrant, saturated scenes juxtapose the melancholic aura of the track, whilst the singer urns to her dreams for an answer.
Growing up in the suburbs of St. Louis, Slayyyter worshipped pop culture from afar, a devout acolyte of such top 40 stalwarts as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga. After dropping out of the University of Missouri, she began to record music in her bedroom as Slayyyter, a pseudonym she borrowed from her favourite Dazed and Confused character. Early singles such as 'BFF', alongside 'Daddy AF' and 'Mine', snatched critical praise from Rolling Stone, NME, The FADER, Paper Magazine, and more. Months before the release of her debut project, she had already sold out her first headlining tour without having even performed live before. She released acclaimed self-titled debut mixtape last September.
