SARAH SAINT JAMES WANTS YOU TO BE EMPOWERED BY YOUR ‘DBE’

Alt-pop independent musician Sarah Saint James has shared her new single, DBE. The brutally honest anthem follows up BIG BOY.

Bringing her unique songwriting style to the track, DBE the song is complete with pop culture references with gritty 808’s and distorted vocals. Building to a massive sing along chorus, the song is an ode to the bad decisions in life, feeling empowered by your “dumb bitch energy”.

Speaking of the release, the singer shares: “This song literally started in the shower. I was washing my hair and saw my phone go off, so I wiped the shower screen to see a message from a really shitty ex. Initially I got kinda excited about replying, because we all know sometimes going back to an ex is so much easier than pushing for something better right? I hopped out of the shower, and as I started to type a reply I literally stopped and said out loud ‘Sarah! Stop being a dumb bitch!’ That’s when I knew it had to be a song. I had a Facetime session with my favourite co-writer (and literal popstar) Cate the next day, where I sat on my bedroom floor and talked about all the dumb shit I do and we wrote the song in literally two hours. Turns out dumb bitch energy flows naturally.”

Born in Adelaide, Saint James grew up with a love for music, tuning into Video Hits and replaying her The Spice Girls VHS tape. Her influences range from Kim Petras, to Ashnikko and Palaye Royale to 100 gecs. In August, Sarah was selected as a finalist in Tones and I’s competition, ‘That One Song’ - and has since stayed in touch with Tones who has expressed her support for Sarah & her songwriting.

DBE is out now! Listen to the track below.
