Sydney-based singer-songwriter Sammy Honeysett has dropped her debut EP, Queen Of Wands. Produced by Jack Nigro (Julia Jacklin, Middle Kids, DMA’s), the release weaves together indie-rock influences built upon swelling drums, pulsating bass lines and Honeysett's beguiling vocals.
Speaking of the EP's title, Honeysett shares: “After recording the EP and discussing names for weeks, nothing felt like it stuck with me. I wanted something that summed the work up. Whilst moving a good friend into their new home and discussing various names in the car; I stumbled across the Queen of Wands Tarot card when arriving at the house. The tarot card meaning has courage, confidence, independence and determination. If I’m honest, it instantly drew me in, and I started researching more about it. It summed me up, and I am proud of myself. I work hard for everything I have achieved so far. I’m an independent female artist who is just starting. I’m determined to achieve great things with my art, and it’s just the beginning.”
The EP's lead single, I C UR LIPS navigates feelings of anger towards a past lover, and the cold demeanour they can present after a breakup. Honeysett's vocals command the attention of her listeners, bringing unrelenting energy and effortless poise, building up to a cathartic and impassioned finale.
Honeysett is set to launch the EP next week with an exclusive show at Oxford Art Factory's gallery bar. Queen Of Wands is out now! Watch the music video for I C UR LIPS below.
