Perth-via-Busselton trio Pretty Uglys have treated us with a brand new track, Situation City. The song serves as the first taste of new music from the band since the release of their 2021 sophomore EP, Party Friends.
Written and recorded at Perth’s Sumo Studios alongside longtime collaborators Tristan Sturmer and George Georgiadis, the track offers up a different side of the three piece, swapping out their riotous surf-rock sonics for a more down-tempo approach. The song documents daily life in the big smoke in modern times.
Speaking of the release, the band share: “Situation City is a song we’ve had for a while now so it was super fun to get it in the studio. Written around the time we moved up to Perth Situation City and the situations that occurred around that. It’s a much slower tempo than the majority of our previous stuff but still retains the energy everyone is familiar with with a fuzzed out chorus.”
The three-piece will also be hitting the road, embarking on their Western Australian tour tomorrow night. Kicking off in Scarborough, the run of shows will continue on to Fremantle, Bunbury, Margaret River and Leederville, before wrapping up in Perth on February 26. “Set to be our biggest tour yet we’re hitting the frog and toad for 6 dates around WA. We’re teaming up with a whole heap of friends along the way and with a fresh live show we can’t wait to kick it off” the band say of the tour.
