Sydney’s indie-pop four-piece Dande And The Lion are gearing up to release their new single, Higher Place. If you can’t wait to give the track a spin, listen to the song right here on MILKY before its release!
The first taste of new music since their 2019 single Twilight Highway, the electrifying and high energy indie rock track was initially written prior to the formation of the band, with vocalist guitarist Natassa Zoë writing the riff whilst living in the UK. The track navigates opening yourself up to new love, connecting with others and kicking down your internal walls.
Speaking of the track, Zoë shares: "I wrote the intro riff and the rough skeleton to "Higher Places" a few years ago while I was in the UK, and then I left it in my little book of notes. Sometime after that, I ended up in Sydney, and Dande and The Lion formed. I remember writing the rest of this song one morning while I was having a cuppa, staring at the ocean. The entire song flowed straight to the page in one go, which is a rare occurrence. I knew at that moment that the music I’d written years prior would be a perfect fit for this story.
I wanted to take the listener on a journey with me to feel the excitement, love, joy, and pain of opening your heart to another human, and connecting with them at a deeper level. I took "Higher Places" to the band, and we worked out all the details. Vocally, I wanted Abbey to start the song and I would come in after the first chorus, creating a narrative between two people’s different perspectives on the same experience.
Our producer and engineer, Lachlan Mitchell, had a big influence on me, and has been on this song's journey with us over the past couple of years. We have him to thank for bringing "Higher Places" to life the way I had envisaged it.”
